7 Tips On How To Avoid Over-Indulging This Festive Season

Let’s be honest, with the roasted turkey on full display, crackling on the side and trifle staring at us and asking to be eaten, it’s hard to stay on track with whatever healthy regimen we’ve been following. And if you’re anything like us, you’ll have no self-control when the festive season hits. But, don’t fret yet because we’ve compiled a list of bullet proof tips that will help you to enjoy a bit of each treat that Christmas has to offer while not over doing it and having mad regret the next day.

Don’t starve yourself

While you may think it’s a good idea to starve during the day and eat everything that comes into view on Christmas day, you are just doing more harm than good. And trust us, you’ll feel like a bloated mess afterwards! So, start your day off with a healthy breakfast that’s packed with protein and fibre so that when lunch comes, you’ll be able to enjoy a moderate portion of Christmas treats.

Select your favourites

Now is not the time to try everything especially if you know what your favourite treats are. We’re all about eating what you want but in moderation. So if you know that trifle only comes but once a year and it’s your absolute favourite then rather dish yourself a decent portion of the scrummy dessert and leave out the other sugary treats that you probably won’t like anyways.

Water is your friend

Remember to always stay hydrated. And yes we do understand that egg nog just can’t be resisted or a glass of wine or a cup of hot choc but try to pick water first because sometimes your body is just dehydrated instead of hungry.

Scan before your dish up

It’s always the hardest to dish healthily when confronted with the mouth-watering buffet but a nifty trick is to first scan what’s for grabs and select what you want before dishing up. That way, you are picking only the items that you have chosen and not dishing the unnecessary ones.

Clear the table

It’s no surprise that the longer we linger at the Christmas table, the more we nibble! So as soon as everyone is done eating, clear the table so that the temptation is out of sight.

Pace yourself

When faced with all the Christmas treats, it’s pretty hard to dish little amounts but trust us, your eyes are a lot bigger than your stomach! Dish smaller amounts and eat slowly – you’ll be surprised at how full you will be after a small serving.

Stop eating when you are full

This may seem like a no-brainer but it’s important to stop eating when you have had enough food. There is nothing worse than feeling stuffed, bloated and just out right uncomfortable.  Simply stop eating when you are satisfied and that way, it’s easier to save some space for dessert!
