Attending a Parkrun in South Africa

So you just discovered about Parkruns in South Africa and would like to find out more information of what this is about, what to expect and how to get started? Great, we hope to answer all your questions and more below.

What is a Parkrun?

This is a timed 5km run or walk that takes place every single Saturday morning at the same time come rain, wind or shine the Parkrun is on. This event is open and free to anyone who wants to take part and is organized by volunteers as it is a non-profit organization. These runs or walks are performed outdoors and can either be in a park, on a trail or at the beach.

Right, How to register for a Parkrun?

Before attending a Parkrun you will need to register in order to see your time after your run or walk. Once you have registered you will then get a Parkrun barcode which will be linked to your profile which will be scanned at the end of your run. If you forget this barcode you wont get a time.

Okay I just finished my Parkrun, how did I do?

After your run, you will soon receive an email with your timing that was captured which will show you your position on the day out of how many runners there was. Where you came in your age category and gender and so forth.

On this page you need to select your event which will be the area/parkrun in the first column. Once you select your event you will then see all the results of the runners for that event.

The information you can see here will be

• your name,
• your time,
• your age category that you fall in,
• gender position,
• if you belong to a club then the club name,
• a little note of your personal best (PB)
• and the total amount of runs your have done.
