Hitting high notes in music and fashion, your mom’s favourite singer, Celine Dion, has been showing us the ropes in style and we are totally, truly and utterly here for it. Just when you thought she couldn’t possibly get any better, Celine Dion has once again reminded us that we should not take her lightly.
As Vogue so eloquently put it, “There is no question that Céline Dion is having a moment.” From headlining at the front row at the Paris shows for the past year, to slaying at the MET gala, Celine is a true paragon of style and has been consistent in her sartorial output. You’d be surprised to learn the Canadian songstress has been wearing couture almost exclusively for her performances for the past 5 years.
But why is she only setting off our style radars now, you ask? Well, we have stylist and “image architect” Law Roach to thank for this delightful resurgence of Celine couture that we are experiencing. Roach, who is also responsible for the wardrobes of Ruby Rose, Ariana Grande and Vogue’s current It girl, Zendaya told ELLE, “It’s a lot of work, but I’m having fun, and I’m actually quite humbled by all the press that it’s getting.”
Make no mistake, Celine has always had a penchant for making bold fashion statements. From that iconic wedding dress to the all-white John Galliano-designed masterpiece she debuted at the 1999 Academy Awards, she has always had a keen eye for putting well-coordinated, crowd-pleasing, just a little bit over-the-top looks together. This is not to be mistaken with outfits mind you – every single component of her attire is thought out and matched to the T.
This brings us back to 2017 (or should we say, twenty-seven-Celine), where the Titanic ballad-singing star took a break from her mini tour of Europe to grace us with some of her best looks for Vogue.
1. Chanel. Celine in Chanel Haute Couture trompe l’oeil silk tulle embroidered dress, Leather boots and a black embroidered boater hat is what we imagine Love looks like. Set in “shades of dusky pink and blue, the haute couture ensemble is touched with the same dreamy palette as a sunset on the River Seine.”
2. Dior. Dion does Dior like a natural in a 3-piece grey ensemble reminiscent of Old-world sophistication.
3. Giambattista Valli. A vision in pink tulle, Celine wears a cloud-like cotton-candy inspired creation accompanied by Cesare Paciotti by Midnight crystal-embroidered silk duchesse pumps at a suite in the Ritz hotel.
4. John Galliano. We are willing to argue that the ‘D’ in Dion stands for deconstruction, as Celine struts her stuff with gumption in a Maison Margiela Artisanal draped décortiqué dress with bra, waspie, and shoulder piece as well as Roger Vivier pointed silver leather mules.
5. Rodarte. Move over Coachella queens, Celine has just proven that she’s the only true royalty worthy of wearing a flower crown. Wearing an intricately embellished jumpsuit coupled with a hand-embroidered floral sequined cape and leather and embossed snake booties, she embodies the picture of Madonna in heaven.
6. Valentino. This tulle and velvet Haute Couture velvet dress with decorated train is echoes grandeur and timeless opulence.
If that wasn’t enough to take your breath away, Celine has also been killing the street style scene in Balenciaga, and her namesake, Céline, amongst others. The all-white jumpsuit and matching cape by Ralph & Russo was among our top favourite looks, vaguely reminiscent of her 1999 Academy Awards two-piece suit. A new day has surely come and with it, a fabulous new Celine. We love her music, we are IN LOVE with her style and we wouldn’t think twice about dubbing her the queen of couture – and that’s the way it is.
