Describe yourself in one line.

Funny, creative, impossibly handsome… oh, also the most humble.

How would you describe your style?

I really like the classics, I’m not really into trendy pieces. Simple, monochromatic, clean lines, but always with a touch of quirk and always with a pair of dope sneakers. You gotta have dope sneakers.

How does your work inform your style?

I worked in advertising for 6 years, so I have an understanding of colours and shapes and how they all work together. Now I do comedy, which is a very visual medium so you’re always on stage, and I have this philosophy, that if you look good it looks like you’re being professional and you take care of yourself and you start considering your image.

Do you have a style/fashion icon?

Pharrell Williams is my guy! I also follow a guy on Instagram called Fredrik Risvik. He is a minimalist, big on simple colours, basic wardrobe but strong looks. Kanye. Tyler The Creator. And of course, Tom Ford, you gotta have the king.

Do you think a lot about how you project yourself on social media?

Definitely. I don’t engage with negativity on social media at all. I try my best to stick to content that entertains or inspires. Recently I’ve started incorporating my design/advertising background into a lot of the content I put out.

What would you like your bio to say in 20 years’ time?

I’m only here to troll my kids.

What do you wear when you need to walk into a room and feel confident?

I am big on suits. I have my suits made and tailored. Wearing a well-fitting suit always makes me feel like superman. If not a suit, then a dope T-shirt, like my UNIQLO KAWS. – that’s where the quirk comes in and again, very strong sneakers. I am a huge fan on the vintage, retro styles, like the New Balance 997 /998 Jordan 1s, Adidas Superstars.

You travel often, what’s one grooming product you cannot leave behind?

Because I travel a lot I always have bags under my eyes, so an eye cream. I didn’t think I would get there, but I am that guy now. Also, I started growing a beard recently, so beard oil is very important to me.

What’s your favourite fragrance?

Currently, I am rotating between Tom Ford and Versace, but anything by Tom Ford.

What’s your warm-weather wardrobe essential?

T-shirts, G-Star RAW jeans and sneakers. And caps, I like caps.

What will you definitely be adding to your wardrobe this spring/summer?

I definitely want a pair of mint or blush pink Common Projects sneakers. Gotta have a light linen suit and some slim-fit unstructured pants.

You’re into sneakers, how many do you own?

My last count was 78 pairs.

Do you wear all of the sneakers you’ve bought?

No, I don’t. I give away a lot of them. But I keep the classics!

Who makes you laugh?

My sister. She is probably the most hilarious person I know.

What makes you laugh?

Children. They have no filter and are so straight forward.

Where are you planning on taking a summer vacation?

Every December I always go back home to the Eastern Cape. Port St Johns, the wild coast area. Although, I’ve done so many beach-type holidays, so I want to do a summer in New York.

If money wasn’t a factor, what’s one piece you’d buy yourself?

A loft apartment in Manhattan, New York. And clothing, BAPE pieces, I love BAPE so much. And of course, a tailor-made Tom Ford suit.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

I am a designer and a fine artist. It’s cool that people know me as a comedian, they think I just make jokes all the time, but now I want to make documentaries, music videos, I want to make a film, I want to do a sneaker collab, I am an all-round creative, it doesn’t matter what the medium is, I just like to express myself, I find that super inspiring, just because you’re a comedian doesn’t mean you can’t design a chair.

I work a lot with kids; I go back to my university and I do a lot of workshops and creative talks with the creative group, just to try to get people out of small-town syndrome mode. 1) People of colour, 2) people just feel like if you come from a small town you’re never going to make it big. And I want to break that thought process and use myself as an example. Get people out and get them to tell their stories. My dad always gave me the best advice and it’s such simple advice and it’s so clichéd, he always said be yourself. It took me a long time to understand what that meant, but now I know what it means; it’s really digging into all of those things that make you, you. Where you’re from, what you’re about, what you’ve encountered along the way. Every one of those stories culminates to form the most original person that you could possibly be.
