Hermanus Whale Festival 2017

Whale, whale, whale, it’s getting to that time of the year where our bigger and cooler aquatic friends come round to say hi. The Hermanus Whale Festival 2017, now one of the most popular events, and only eco-marine festivals, that take place in Cape Town (in the small town of Hermanus to be specific) annually, is the event that takes place around this naturally occurring wonder of the Southern right whales’ return to the waters of Walker Bay. This year you can look forward to the event happening from the 29th of September to the 1st of October.

The festival’s objective is to celebrate marine life while simultaneously educating visitors about conservation with special focus on the youth. They achieve this year after year by incorporating interactive activities and informative exhibitions into the rest of the fun showcase.

In the organisers’ own words:

“We have embarked upon a major campaign to change the way ocean wildlife is treated on the Cape Whale Coast.  Our interactive exhibitions are aimed at the youth, our future conservationists. By reaching children at an early age, we leave them with a love, passion and respect for marine wildlife and the knowledge to preserve our blue planet.

The Hermanus Whale Festival highlights local efforts to protect the whales from extinction, through ocean-themed activities and exhibits that emphasize education and environmentally responsible adventures and products.”
