High Fashion Travel With Karabo Ducasse

I’m obsessed with travel and equally obsessed with beautiful travel pictures so one of the first things I pack when going on a trip, is a power bank to make sure my phone is ever ready to snap, snap and snap. The second thought then finally goes to clothes. The relationship between travel and fashion is one that fascinates me, and though I haven’t quite mastered it yet, I know someone who has and her name is Karabo Ducasse.

Karabo is a House Music connoisseur, an avid traveler and someone whose travel pictures I always look forward to seeing. I asked her a few questions about her love for fabulous fashion and travel and here’s how it went:

Karabo your travels are always fashionable. Passport aside, what items do you not leave home without?

Karabo: I always plan my wardrobe in accordance to the weather and season of my destination. Most of the time I travel in summer so I never leave without my sunglasses and matching bikinis and covers. If I’m traveling in snow season, it will be my knee-high boots, white leather jacket and of course leather gloves are a must.

Do you pick the clothes yourself or do you solicit help?

Karabo: Most of the time I consult with my designer/stylist Andile Bhenya. I plan my itinerary in advance so for the duration of the trip I know which outfits would work for my various activities during the trip. I usually have a minimum 2 looks per day that will work and would be suitable for what I plan for the day and something that will work for the evening well into the night.

Whether I’m planning to be on boat for the day, lunch at an amazing restaurant, a visit to the museum, or relaxing at the pool I make sure my outfits are comfortable, light and perfect because I try walk as much as possible when on holiday.

A black dress, a pair of heels and clutch are also a must in case a dinner date at a superb restaurant comes up. I make sure my outfits spell luxury and comfort whatever the occasion and time of day.

You must travel with quite a heavy bag, wow. Your clothes are always colourful and stand out, how much of that is aligned to your personality?

Karabo: I believe in Colour.  Colour reflects and mirrors what is happening on the inside of us. I’m a free spirit, my heart dances all the time and it tends to reflect on my clothes. Black is my favourite Colour.

I wouldn’t have guessed! Now you have travelled to a whole lot of amazing places but which are your favorite cities for shopping?

Karabo: The best cities for shopping are Milan, Paris, Buenos Aires, Dubai and New York City. London is also great for shopping – it such a refined and classy city and there’s nothing better than ending a shopping spree with high tea at Claridges in Mayfair.

What is the best fashion item you’ve bought on holiday?

Karabo: A black lace dress I bought in Mexico City – so versatile and the fabric is exquisite. I also bought loafers in Milan that I can’t get enough of. I love shoes and bags

For a budget traveler looking to do some budget travel shopping, what destinations would you suggest?

Karabo: I would suggest Turkey.

Is there any item of clothing that you wear more than anything else in your closet?

Karabo: A little black dress! You can’t go wrong with an elegant black dress and a pair of heels.

Do you have a favorite fashion quote?

Karabo: It’s not a fashion quote but my life quote: It is never too late to redefine, redesign and relaunch your life.  My other favorite quote is “Don’t catch feelings catch flights, don’t chase people chase summer! “
