How To Buy Lingerie for Your Girl | Buyers Guide

Are you looking to spoil that special someone in your life? You’ve come to the right place buster. We’ve got you covered with a wide range of lingerie to choose from, but before we get into the nitty gritty, let’s start with the basics. If it’s your first time shopping for lingerie, you best get acquainted with the following terms:

Bustier – A form-fitting garment that primarily pushes up the bust by tightening against the upper midriff and forcing the breasts up, while shaping the waist.
Bodysuit – Think one-piece swimsuit, but composed of delicate material instead.
Balconette – Much like the bustier, this bra is designed with a ‘balcony-like’ neckline to cup the breasts from below and push them up for a firm and rounded appearance at the top.
Bralette – Similar to a sports bra, the bralette has no wires or moulded cups. They’re usually composed of lace and feature triangular-shaped cups.
Briefs – Did you know that there are several kinds and cuts of panties? Briefs are a universal favourite as they offer maximum coverage, yet still remain sexy at the same time. They can be high-cut, bikini cut or mid-rise.
Camisole – A thin, sleeveless loose-fitting garment that resembles a tank top. Camisoles cover the top part of the body and can be worn with or without a bra (they usually form part of a set).
Corset – This garment is worn to help shape the torso to appear smaller and creates an hourglass silhouette. They’re generally boned/wired to emphasise a woman’s shape.
Chemise – A short, loose-fitting, sleeveless gown that falls somewhere between mid-thigh and knee-length. Typically used as a cover-up.
Garter Belt – (aka suspender belts) Narrow bands of fabric fastened about the leg, used to keep up stockings and other hosiery.
G-String/ T-String – A tiny brief garment that consists of a narrow strip of cloth attached to a waistband that covers only the essential bits (and leaves little to imagination).
Teddy – This single-piece garment covers both the torso and crotch. Normally made of sheer and delicate material.
Seamless – Probably the most comfortable underwear under the sun. As the name states, there are no visible seams on these.

Rule #1: Know what she likes

No, we aren’t talking dirty – we mean find out what her preference is. With so many options on the market, it’ll do you good to narrow down the spec. Note that even though you’re buying, she’ll be the one wearing it, so it’s important that it’s something she’ll feel comfortable in.

We get it. Most guys want to see their girlfriends emerge as a Victoria Secret Angel, but the reality is that most of those garments are impractical and downright uncomfortable. It’s best to keep her interests foremost in mind and you’re guaranteed not to fail. Take note of what she regularly wears or sneak a peek into her lingerie drawer to get an idea of what she likes. Buying lingerie needn’t be an intimidating experience, especially if you know what you’re looking for.

Rule #2:  Know the damage

You can’t put a price on quality so expect to pay a pretty penny. Don’t be disheartened though; there are cheat codes around this. For instance, opt for a one-piece and you’ll only have to pay for one thing. You can also get add-ons like garters, stockings or a sexy chemise, if she’s already got enough lingerie. Mind you, don’t be cheap about it ─ she’ll know. Make sure your gesture is thoughtful and remember that you can’t put a price on quality – just like the woman you’re buying lingerie for.

Rule #3: Black lace is a failsafe

If you really feel like you’re in over your head, go for black lace-anything. Black is universally flattering and lace is unanimously loved. It’s also very easy to pair and suits most skin tones. (We really hoped that you’d put more effort into this though.)

Rule #4: Compliment & admire

This is the most important rule in this entire blog post. Make sure that you appreciate the effort she put in and be over-the-top about it. Compliment, fawn, jump for joy ─ do whatever it takes to show her that you care.
