Is cow print the new leopard print?

The unexpected trend of 2021.

The Western trend has been on the rise and rise for the last few seasons. Think cowboy boots, bandanas and fringed jackets. But there’s a new iteration of the trend in town.

As far as prints go, plaids feel autumnal and florals read spring, but animal print is forever. First came leopard. Then we had tiger, zebra and snake. In 2021, there’s no bigger animal-print trend than the western-inspired cow print.

Not convinced? Google searches for the trend are up 196% on last year (and climbing!). It’s official: cow print is a thing.

“Moo, moo, moo, moo, moo, moo, moo, moo,” sings rapper Doja Cat, wearing a matching cow print shirt and skirt while sipping a milkshake against a cow print backdrop in her 2018 “Mooo!” music video. Who knew that when the now-viral video released it would mark the beginning of a cow print resurgence.

The cow print pieces to add to cart now!

Everyone from Victoria Beckham and Meghan Markle to Celine Dion and Kylie Jenner has been spotted wearing this prairie-inspired print. And it looks just as good on a tailored Victoria Beckham runway look as it does on Kylie Jenner’s swimsuit or Meghan Markle’s heels. The print du jour even makes an appearance in Dua Lipa’s “Love Again” music video, a true homage to western style.

We know what you’re thinking – quite the bold print to pull off? Luckily, the monochromatic colour scheme makes the cow print trend genuinely wearable. Just make sure to wear one piece at a time and keep the rest of your look understated to err on the side of modern cool rather than farm girl goes to the city. Think a breezy cow print blouse tucked into denim. A cosy cow print coat thrown over your athleisure staples. A cow print skirt with a crisp white shirt – you get the idea.

The easiest way to wear this trend also happens to be our favourite. There’s something really fresh about wearing a pop of cow print via your accessories – a stylish block heel boot or a new bag. It’s unexpected in the best way possible.
