Mayweather vs McGregor Fight | South Africa

Mayweather vs McGregor Fight –  are you ready?

The money fight happening this Saturday night has people around the world buzzing. Trying to decide on a winner is nearly impossible as the world seems to be completely split between the two titans; this fight is sure to break all boxing box-office records and is definitely a must-see. And given that Mayweather is set to score $350 million from the fight, and McGregor $100 million you get why it’s called “The Money Fight”.

Floyd “Money” Mayweather has an undefeated professional fight record of 49-0 with 26 knockouts; he is widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever, and prides himself on his ability to evade punishment with his skillful movement about the ring while making adjustments against opponents on the fly.

Conor McGregor MMA fight record stands at 24 bouts, 21 wins and three defeats by submission – 18 of those victories have come via knockout. He has fought at several weight levels, most recently at welterweight and lightweight. The 28-year-old’s most recent defeat was against Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March last year, but the Irishman defeated him in a rematch at UFC 202. McGregor has never boxed as an amateur or professionally.

Mayweather and McGregor Dress Styles

When looking at the dressing styles of these two champions, we find ourselves on complete opposite sides of the spectrum.

Conner McGregor

Conor definitely steals the limelight with his tailor made designer suits, he always looks impeccable and completely put together. On the first stop of a four-city media tour, wearing what looked like a pin stripe suit but which was decorated with the words “f— you” written in small writing all over it.

Mayweather

With Mayweather is seems that comfort is key. Being an undefeated boxing world champion, chances are you’re going to be in a tracksuit a lot, whether you’re training, sitting court side or catching a private jet. Floyd Mayweather is not the exception and from what we’ve seen he loves his tracksuits, when Floyd isn’t training or chilling really hard he likes to keep it simple with jeans and tees

Who’s going to win?

We doubt anyone could really give a clear cut answer on who’s going to win the Mayweather vs McGregor fight, at the moment the world is in array over this but they are still placing bets. The odds as it stands right now are as follows:

– Mayweather win – 1/4
– McGregor win – 3/1
– Draw – 33/1

Why is this such a big fight?

Why the Mayweather vs McGregor fight is such a big deal is due to a number of reasons. Floyd Mayweather, one of the greatest professional boxers of all time, will attempt to reach the monumental achievement of 50-0 – against Conor McGregor, who will be boxing professionally for the very first time. It will be biggest pay day in sporting history for both Mayweather and the sport of boxing.

In the end, the fight has generated a huge interest from boxing fans and MMA fans because it has been hyped like crazy.

When and where is the fight taking place and how can we watch it in South Africa?

The fight is happening on Saturday 26 August and will take place at the T-Mobile arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. The venue has held major fights in the past; including UFC 202, in which McGregor beat Nate Diaz on points.

While the fight is to take place on Saturday night it will be an early morning for South Africans viewers, the fight is due to go live at about 5:30am on Sunday morning.

However there is some good news for all South African views, Multichoice is adding a pop-up channel for the fight; the pop-up channel went live on DStv channel 213 on Saturday 19 August and run for 8 days until 27 August.

The channel has been airing rebroadcasts of Floyd Mayweather’s great fights and his visit to South Africa in 2014 from 17:00pm to 1:00am daily. On 27 August SuperSport will cross to Las Vegas at 03:00am in the morning for the undercard clash with the main bout expected to start after 05:00am.

What’s the latest updates on the fight?

This past Wednesday the Nevada Boxing regulators gave the two fighters an exemption to a rule requiring 10-ounce gloves, approving 8-ounce gloves for the Aug. 26 bout. Representatives of both fighters appeared before the Nevada Athletic Commission to request the waiver. Under Nevada regulations, 10-ounce gloves are required in fights above 147 pounds and the bout is set for 154 pounds. But Mayweather has worn 8-ounce gloves most of his career, and McGregor has worn 4-ounce gloves in his UFC fights. Both fighters seemed pleased with this decision.

Furthermore on a televised interviewed the CONTROVERSIAL sports reporter Skip Bayless grilled Floyd Mayweather Snr, claiming his son would be knocked out by Conor McGregor.

“I’m gonna lay it out for you, Conor will knock your son out because it’s the only way Conor is gonna win this fight,” Bayless told Mayweather Snr last night.

“Your son is gonna underestimate what’s about to hit him both in will and skill.

What happens after the fight?

It has been said that Floyd “Money” Mayweather will truly be retiring his gloves after this fight. We know that he came out of retirement after two years for it but then again who would walk away from a $350 000 000+  pay day?

McGregor on the other hand will return to MMA, he recently said in an interview “I look forward to going back to MMA and having a true fight after this, make rematches that will be there, I’m sure. I’m not forgetting my mixed martial arts training. I always focus on my kicking, grappling and wrestling, but [for now] somebody’s O has got to go.”

It seems that most of the world assumes that it’s nearly impossible for an MMA fighter to win the undefeated champion of boxing while playing by his rules, but should Conor McGregor fulfill his prophecy and actually land a knockout blow to the chin of unbeaten Hall of Fame-bound Floyd Mayweather, the next-day resonance from Las Vegas could reshape perceptions of upsets—and boxing itself—forever.

All we can do now is wait patiently and see what happens.

Here are a few videos we found which are sure to get you ready.
