Seaside Styling

The sun, sea and sand of summer beckons and this year we can once again pack our bags and head off to our favourite seaside destinations. Whether your sunshine jaunt will be meticulously planned out with a detailed itinerary (me) or be a spur-of-the-moment, devil-may-care one (definitely not me), some degree of planning should go into your packing. The very last thing you want to happen is to get to your destination and realise the only things you’ve packed in your excited holiday daze are five swimsuits, one flip-flop and a now exploded bottle of sunscreen.

Travelling

Leave the lockdown sweats at home and head off to your seaside paradise in crisp cottons and linen – extra points for a nautically themed blue and white colour combo. If you don’t want to be bothered with too much luggage a weekender or duffle bag plus a Youtube packing tutorial will be your friends.

Ocean Sighted

Unpacked and ready for your first skip down to the beach? Time to employ the summer styling secret five-digit code: S-S-S-S-S (sunnies, sundress, swimsuit, sandals, sunscreen).

Sundowners

Beachside bars aren’t license to head out in sandy flip-flops; zhuzh up a casual yet chic linen dress or jumpsuit with a touch of golden glamour. Big hoops add just the right amount of drama without being overstated, while a mid-height block heel sandal elevates the look perfectly.

Day at the Beach

There are a plethora of great swimsuit styles to choose from for your days of lazily lounging on the beach. Retro-inspired styles with larger cuts, bold prints and thick-strapped halternecks make the perfect accompaniment to large straw sun hats. A diaphanous cover-up and easy to slip on and off sandals complete the look.

Holiday Romance

When packing for a potential special night out choose a dress that could easily do duty during the day or night with a simple change in accessories – a statement bag and strappy heels or bejewelled flats would do the trick.

Off to the Market

Found a market you want to explore before heading to the beach? A pair of linen or denim shorts and a crisp white shirt knotted at the waist over a one-piece is a no brainer. A pair of Birkenstocks is also essential to keep you trudging along in comfort.

Seaside Sunset

A vibrantly printed maxi dress is a holiday must-have whether doing day duty as a swimsuit cover-up or being restaurant ready at sunset. Pair with some wedge espadrilles and shell accessories for that perfect final holiday outfit.
