Skincare for every type of skin

Creating a proper skincare regimen can be a nightmare when you don’t know what you’re dealing with, but figuring out your skin type is easier than you think. Either you’re dry, oily or somewhere in between and yes, it’s that simple. To find out what type of skin you’re blessed with and how to take care of it, keep on reading.

First things first: sunscreen is your best friend no matter what skin you’re in.

Normal skin

Ah, normal skin, probably the most enviable skin type out there. You don’t suffer from breakouts often and you can’t really relate to that 1pm shine that sebum overproducers deal with. In order to maintain your glorious skin, stick to a well-balanced diet and don’t skimp on sunscreen.

Regimen:

Use a morning facewash that is made for normal skin such as Nivea Visage Refreshing Face Gel(1) to wash away any impurities that might’ve wiggled their way into your pores while you’ve been sleeping.

Follow up with a moisturiser like African Extract’s Classic Care Moisterizing Cream(2), that is rich enough to hydrate your skin without leaving your skin looking or feeling greasy and, most importantly, make sure it has an SPF of at least 15.

Washing your face at the end of day, especially when you’re wearing makeup, is vital as your skin regenerates at night while you sleep (hence beauty sleep) and you don’t want all the day’s gunk still on your skin, so polish your face with Nivea’s Skin Refining Scrub(3).

Once your skin is squeaky clean, restore the moisture with African Extract’s Classic Care Nourishing Night Cream(4) that helps your skin regenerate while you sleep.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skinned beauties are prone to breakouts when using synthetically scented and coloured products. Fortunately, so many brands now cater to your delicate skin that you won’t have a hard time finding the perfect products that will give your skin the TLC it deserves.

Regimen:

Start your morning off with a facewash suited to your skin type such as this Nivea Visage Gentle Cleansing Creme Wash(1) and put up a barrier between your delicate skin and everything else by moisturising with Nivea Visage Rich Daily Moisturising Cream(2)

When it comes to washing off the day, African Extracts’ Classic Care Deep Cleansing Facial Wash(3) will do the trick without irritating your skin and from the same brand, the Classic Care Nourishing Night Cream(4) will ensure your skin is perfectly hydrated and nourished.

Dry skin

We know you aren’t as flaky as your skin, so stop picking and start nourishing. Dry, flaky skin is a thing and those dreary winter conditions exacerbate it, but fortunately there are so many ways to combat dry skin using both manufactured products and the edible, homemade kind.

Regimen:

Rise and shine by washing and rinsing with the Classic Care Soothing Cleansing Lotion(1) by African Extracts for a fresh-faced feel and give your face some intense moisture by following up with Africa Extracts’ Moisturising Day Cream(2) moisturiser.

When washing off the day’s pollutants and skin stressors, use African Extracts’ Classic Care Deep Cleansing Facial Wash(3) for a polished, but still nourished base and drench your skin by rubbing in a simple combo of half a teaspoon of coconut oil and half a teaspoon of castor oil. These oils will seep into the skin and provide your skin with all the moisture it craves while you get your beauty sleep.

Oily skin

Who needs the latest highlighter when you wake up with that natural glow? We glowing beauties know the battle of checking our face around 1pm and seeing that doughnut glaze everywhere and no, it’s not cute. Thank the skincare gods that we can banish that not-so-gorgeous glow with this simple skin regimen.

Regimen:

Start off with a cleansing facewash such as Garnier’s Deep Pore Wash(1) and follow up with their Pure Active Airlicium Shine Control (2)  moisturiser that has a mattifying, oil-free formula to banish that shine from the get-go.

Unfortunately, getting into bed without cleansing your skin is a big no-no for oily girls as your skin will hate you in the morning and it’ll show. Simply take a few minutes to scrub off your makeup if you’re wearing any and the day’s build up with an exfoliating cleanser such as L’Oreal’s Skin Perfection Gentle Exfoliator(3), and follow up with the Nivea Perfect & Radiant Night Cream(4) to ensure your skin has all the moisture it needs until the following morning’s rigmarole.

Aging skin

No matter how old you are, a proper skincare regimen will always work in your favour. Whether you’re heading into your thirties or the fine lines are already there, a good skincare routine will slow down the signs of aging and will also give your skin the nutrients it needs to age gracefully.

Regimen:

Your morning routine should include a facewash like this Ponds Anti Age Daily Regenerating Facial Foam(1) which has collagen-boosting ingredients to plump up the skin for a younger looking appearance, and follow up with a nourishing moisturiser such as this Advantage Intensive Day Cream(2) to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day.

When washing off the day’s build-up, use a hydrating cleanser like the Advantage Hydrating Creamy Cleanser(3) for an intense, but non-abrasive clean and follow up with this highly concentrated Anti-Age Concentrated Resurfacing Serum(4) by Ponds in conjunction with their Anti-Age Overnight Repair Dream Night Cream(5) for a boost of youth-activating nourishment.
