Skip Monochrome – SA’s Hottest Fashion Talent Now Available Exclusively on Zando

Monochrome has long been a go-to aesthetic for designers and shoppers alike. It’s timeless, sophisticated, clean and always seems to have a significant impact on the fashion world. From high-end brands to emerging local designers, the black-and-white mix up is accessible, easy to wear and is now beginning to dominate the South African fashion industry.

With the trend being embraced by all, the next step is to look after our latest monochrome buys. Thus, introducing the Skip Monochrome unisex collection – designed by three of South Africa’s top fashion designers, Imprint ZA, Lukhanyo Mdingi and Prime Obsession.

As proud South Africans, we’re thrilled to announce that the Skip Monochrome collection is now available exclusively on our site. Made from a combination of natural cotton, printed cotton, cotton blends, poplin and rugby-knit jersey fabrics, the collection was designed with the purpose of upholding the ideals of the campaign, which is, to provide customers with the means to maintain the quality of monochrome fabrics. The materials used are sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable, making it an excellent choice as an environmentally-friendly fibre throughout its entire product life cycle.

When asked about what the designers loved most about Skip’s new Perfect Range, they had this to say:

Definitely the longevity of the products. Looking at the darker detergent, it actually keeps and retains the dark tones of your garment. Also, you have the detergent for white clothing which keeps the brightness and the freshness of your whites looking bright and clean. – Lukhanyo Mdingi

It’s so powerful when a household brand collaborates with designers because people get to focus on local fashion instantly. It opens an opportunity for designers to access new markets and for people to recognise and value South African fashion. – Mzukisi Mbane from Imprint ZA

Pieces are limited and all sales from the monochrome pop-up shops will be donated to The Creative Leaders Trust, which assists current and prospective students at FEDISA to uplift the future of local fashion.

Q – Describe your SKIP monochrome collection in 3 words.

A – Refined, modern and cohesive.

Q – How would you describe the pieces that you’ve put together for your SKIP monochrome collection?

A- It’s a very considered collection and I really had to adhere to natural authenticity of my label. Also, looking at what Skip really wanted to get from the collaboration. Keeping it clean and keeping it timeless was essential – I think because it’s so concise, the pieces have a consistent relation to one another.

Q – Describe your Skip monochrome collection in 3 words.

A – Authentic, personal and elevated.

Q – How would you describe monochrome dressing?

A – Again, there needs to be a statement somewhere. Going back to the fact that the look needs to be elevated. Usually people think statement only links to print. But a statement piece is supposed to be something, anything that makes an impression. It could be the powerful coat in solid black, but it needs to be, like, when you walk into a room, people need to remember that moment. So, you need to have a statement piece.

Modest fashion influencer, Nabilah Kariem, took a streetstyle take on  Mzukisi’s collection.

Melody Molale opted for one of Imprint ZA’s more timeless pieces – a monochrome masterpiece.
