The benefits of exercise

Exercise is commonly associated with weight loss, however, there are many more benefits that exercise offers!

Being active has been shown to have many health benefits, both physically and mentally. There are many types of physical activity, including swimming, running, walking and dancing.

6 reasons to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle
1. It can make you feel happier

Exercise is proven to improve your mood and decrease feelings of depression, anxiety and stress. Interestingly, it doesn’t matter how intense your workout is. It seems that your mood can benefit from exercise no matter the intensity of the physical activity.

2. It’s good for your muscles and bones

As we age, we tend to lose muscle mass and function, which can lead to injuries and disabilities. Exercise assists with building bone density, in addition to helping prevent osteoporosis when you are older.

Interestingly, high-impact exercise, such as running, or odd-impact sports, such as soccer and basketball, have been shown to promote a higher bone density than non-impact sports such as swimming and cycling.

3. It can increase your energy levels

Instead of reaching for a cup of coffee to help fight fatigue, start your day with a short workout. Surprisingly, exercise can be a real energy booster and help fight fatigue!

4. It can help skin health

Exercise increases your body’s production of antioxidants, which protects your skin cells. Furthermore, exercise helps assist blood flow and induce skin cell adaptations that can help delay the onset of skin ageing.

5. It can help your brain health and memory

Exercise can improve overall brain function and memory. Exercise increases your heart rate, which promotes the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain.

6. It can help with weight loss

Dieting which results in reduced calories will lower your metabolic rate, which will delay weight loss. On the contrary, regular exercise has been shown to increase your metabolic rate, which will burn more calories and help you lose weight naturally.

Additionally, combining aerobic exercise with weight training can maximize fat loss which is essential for keeping the weight off.
