Trend Talks ─ Dresses with Flip Flops

You heard it here first folks, wearing your trendy dresses with flip flops are officially on-trend. We aren’t talking the ‘mom-stay-in-the-house-wear-all-day’ kind either; we mean seriously high fashion. That’s right, the humble flip flop has come up and we endorse the movement wholeheartedly.

We aren’t the only ones who champion them though; Liana Satenstein, Senior Fashion Writer at Vogue, declared that flip flops are making a comeback this past June, too. Since then, this beach darling has made an appearance on the Isabel Marant and Michael Kors Spring ‘18 runway as well. Street style stars followed suit at Copenhagen’s fashion week, rocking the noughties favourite, Havaianas. (Flashback to 2001 with Britney and Paris Hilton dominating the fashion scene in their velour sweats and flip flops.)

With resort season underway and summer approaching fast, we investigate the very serious hard-hitting question…

Are wearing flip flops as an intentional fashionable choice okay?

Flip Flops ─ Yay or Nay?

French journalist, Sophie Fontanel votes yes. “Since it’s the simplest shoe ever, it enters into the category of a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans. I like it,” she told Vogue. Anny Choi concurred with the following statement: “They aren’t so bratty. They make you look cool without actually trying.”

As we all know, they’re really convenient and downright comfortable, so why not?

Leandra Medine from ManRepeller.com explains: “I would rather stab myself in the foot than see a perfectly good outfit go to waste care of flip-flop-generated destruction. Yes, they are convenient. They make getting pedicures on a whim easier. They’re reliable. They are often water proof and if you have an obnoxious big toe, they sequester it from the rest of the gang. But they’re also too easy.”

Our Verdict: Flip Flops Are In!

We have no problem with easy. In fact, we’re all about easy fashion over here at Zando. (Mind you, don’t confuse ‘easy’ for kitschy, we still keep it stylish.) Pair your favourite pair with a trendy mini, midi or maxi dress and a statement bag for that high-fashion appeal.

Style tip: The brighter the flip-flop, the better.

If you’re after a more laid-back casual approach, team yours with the time-honoured fail safe, a shirtdress. It’s classic, it’s chic and it screams laissez-faire

Style tip: A black pair offers versatility.

There you have it folks! We have concluded our investigation and we hope that you’ll take our findings to heart this summer ─ your feet will be better off for it. Not into flip flops? Consult their cousins, the slide, for an alternative.
