Trend Talks ─ What to Wear This Season

The awkward time between seasons is always a toughie when you’re trying to dress according to trend. What’s in? What’s out? Is it time to visit gran’s closet again? What are dad sneakers and should I invest in them? Why is everyone wearing scrunchies again and what is the deal with neon?

─ These are all pertinent questions that we will probe in the following blog post.

So, without further ado, here’s what’s currently trending.

Big Earrings

You’ve seen the likes of big gold hoops, dainty charmed hoops, coin details and jewel-encrusted drops, but this season’s instalment of ear candy is a bit more playful and dare we say, silly. Gear up for the arrival of Lucite, shell accents and tortoise-shell to make its way onto the trend lexicon in the coming months. We’re also paying homage to Moroccan designs, feather dusters and craft-inspired earrings this season.

Statement or Logo Tees

This year’s motto is undoubtedly “say it with your chest” and we could not agree with the adage more than now. As we’ve hinted previously, logo and slogan T-shirts are slowly making a comeback and, oddly enough, so is ‘90s Word Art and ‘old’ concert/rock band tees. We’ve all been exposed to the ‘feminist’ variations during 2018 but this year, we’re taking it one step further with more aggressive activism being put on display. #HereForIt

Midi Skirts

Though none of us are strangers to the midi skirt, this season is seeing a strong influx of animal print, groovy florals and, our personal favourite, Crayola colourways. In addition to the above, bubble skirts are also back, along with tight pleats, ruffles, feathered details, billowing hemlines and sheer delights. Essentially, the midi skirt is having a major moment right now and the more whimsical or loud, the better.

Waist Bags

The waist bag reign just won’t let up and we find no issue with that ─ at all (Read: Breaking: Moon bags are still in). Because there’s a large focus on tailoring and suits this season, the waist bag offers a trendy alternative to belting. Not to mention, it does wonders for flattering one’s waistline and also works great as a colour-blocking agent (which is also going to be big in 2019).

White Shoes

Fashion rules dictate that white shoes are a must and 2019’s segment does not disappoint. Even if running marathons are the bane of your existence, it’s time to invest in a pair of white running shoes because they’re back and they’re here to stay.

‘It’ girls and fashion blogger babes, be aware that the square-toed ‘70s go-go boot is also making the rounds; along with the classic and time-honoured western bootie (can I get a yee-haw?).
