6 Workwear Staples for the Ultimate Workaholic

According to a recent study by HR News, 15% of workplaces have adopted a more casual approach to dressing for the office. An opposing study, however, saw that dressing casually could cause an employee to feel less focused and alert in the workplace. Given the above stats, we can conclude that some rules are made to be broken, and though that may be partially true in the case of workwear, some rules still remain today.

So that begs the question: what’s a workaholic to wear on the daily?

1.    A Spacious Bag

Whether it’s a tote, a backpack or a roomy shopper, every working girl needs a large bag to keep her belongings and other important ‘work stuff’ close at hand. Brands like ALDO and Call it Spring offer sophisticated styles that never age, although you can’t go wrong in investing in a few trendy pieces here and there to draw some interest to your outfit (and profession).

2.    A Blouse

No matter how much we’d like to do away with traditional ‘workwear’, blouses are the understated backbone of any work ensemble and there’s really no reason to do away with them. Wear them with jeans, slacks, minis or any other bottoms you have and we guarantee that they’ll always look chic.

3.    The Blazer

Another corporate staple that made its way into our hearts is the blazer. Looking for an easy way to make a casual outfit look smarter? Add a blazer! The double-breasted style has made a comeback this season, along with collegiate styles and the pinstripe for extra ‘smart’ points. Pair it with a plain white tee and jeans to keep the balance between casual and corporate.

4.    Plain Jeans

As we blur the lines between corporate and casual, we do away with the stiff, sartorial trousers in lieu of everyone’s favourite bottoms ─ jeans. They’re all-season friendly, they’re easy to style and the best part is that you probably own a few pairs already. Whether you’re wearing them with a blouse or a plain tee, they’ll always be your fail-safe option. The perfect pair of jeans for work will usually have no rips or details and maintain a comfortable snug fit.

5.    Block heels

Like push-up bras, block heels offer necessary elevation without discomfort. Invest in one pair for winter and one for summer, or, opt for courts to wear all year round.

6.    A Striped T-shirt

Mark these words: anything a plain T-shirt can do, a striped tee can do better. Whether you’re pairing yours with slacks and flats (oui!), or jeans and a light blazer/coat, the striped T-shirt is a perennial favourite. We like them for the office simply because they’re a necessary break from solids, without being too playful or casual.
