Comfortable, versatile, chic. We know that a pair (or several) of white sneakers is a must-own for the up and coming warm-weather season. Keeping them clean can be a problem, so we’re here to help!
How to keep your white kicks looking box fresh:
When cleaning your white sneakers, always remember to be gentle; no hard scrubbing, no harsh cleaning agents and absolutely do not put them in the washing machine. When cleaning canvas pairs, the following steps can be followed:
- Apply soap to a clean, damp cloth and/or toothbrush – not directly to the sneaker – then gently rub the surface of the sneaker in circular motions.
- If there are any stains, use water and baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) or water and washing powder solution, and gently rub it onto the stained areas.
- Leave the sneakers for a few minutes to allow the solution to latch onto the stain.
- Rinse the stain off using a clean damp cloth. In the case of more stubborn stains, simply repeat step two until the stain has been removed.
- Allow the canvas sneakers to dry properly before use.
When cleaning leather sneakers a little extra care is required, remember leather is a skin so treat it as gently as you would your own. The steps above can be followed when cleaning leather but it’s best to replace the soap, bicarb or washing powder solutions with a specialised leather cleaning agent.
It’s also a good idea to store your white sneakers away from direct sunlight when not wearing them as frequent and prolonged direct sunlight exposure can cause them to fade over time. If possible store your sneakers in the cardboard box or dust bag they came in or in any other cotton bag.
