The Best Men’s Shoes To Buy This Winter

They say the clothes don’t make the man, but you sure can tell a lot about a guy by what he wears on his feet. But with so many options to choose from, it can be quite tricky finding a pair that really expresses your individuality. Well, don’t panic. We’ve singled out the top footwear fashion trends from the autumn/winter 17 runways and street style in New York, Paris and Milan, and show you how to incorporate them into your wardrobe to ensure that you put your best foot forward this season.

The White Sneaker

From Louis Vuitton to Zadig & Voltaire, the white sneaker showed up everywhere this season. While not the most practical, nothing quite says ‘fresh’ like a pair of crisp white sneaks. Worn with a suit and a plain tee, or with your favourite sweats and puffer jacket, white sneakers brighten up any basic outfit. Just be sure to keep those bad boys clean to avoid looking sloppy. You can purchase your sneaker cleaning kit here.

The Running Man

For the man on the go, a pair of functional running shoes are an absolute necessity. Apart from being super comfortable, a flashy pair, like the ones seen at Y3, adds instant luxe to a casual outfit, and can help to tone down an otherwise formal look. Be bold with  brightly coloured socks, like the pairs we have here.

The Blucher

Some say blucher, others say brogue. Either way, this is your new go-to shoe for those occasions that require you to spruce yourself up a little bit. Bluchers pair effortlessly with your favourite denims, or with your everyday work suit. We love the two-tone accents seen at Neil Barrett’s show in Milan, but when in doubt go for a pair in classic black or brown.

The Oxford

This shoe may appear to be a regular lace-up, but don’t let it fool you. A black leather oxford with a capped toe is the ultimate lady-killer, especially when paired with a tailored suit and tie. If you’re going to splurge, the oxford is definitely worth the investment, as it will see you through many a formal event.

The Chelsea Boot

Made famous by the Beatles in the 60s, the Chelsea boot was also seen on the runway at Fendi this season. It’s no wonder the Chelsea boot is a staple in every man’s closet. Wear yours with slacks and a knit sweater or go full mod squad, a la Mick Jagger, in a pair of fitted black jeans and a leather jacket.

The Loafer

The Gucci loafer was the ‘It’ shoe for street style stars everywhere after the house’s spring/summer 17 show. With the likes of Fendi and Prada giving their take on the shoe, this season was no different. Whether they’re the classic penny, or embellished with fringe or tassels, loafers add a fun and quirky element to almost any ensemble.

The Hiking Boot

If the Chelsea boot isn’t exactly your cup of tea, take a more utilitarian approach with a pair of rugged hiking boots. As seen in shows from Moschino, DSquared2 and Emporio Armani, this season’s boots are made for so much more than walking. Wear yours with a hooded parka jacket and khakis, or with a sweater and your roughest pair of jeans.

The Skater Boy

Lastly, no wardrobe would be complete without your every day kicks. Whether it’s a quick run to the corner shop or to hang out with your friends, nothing beats the skater sneak. Lace them up or strap them on like the ones at Yoshio Kubo’s show, these shoes only look better the more you wear them.
