Modest bloggers and their following have grown over the years. With a developing interest in uplifting the community, modest bloggers are changing how we perceive and define the word ‘modesty’. As a result, dressing modestly has become more acceptable and celebrated in the mainstream. 

 

Here are the top 10 best modest bloggers who are shaking up the industry.

 

1. Nabilah Karriem Peck 

With a strong focus on Asian, Western and vintage styling, plus an enviable amount of headscarves, Nabilah almost single-handedly dominates the modest blogger scene in South Africa. Like her reputation, Nabilah’s dreams are big: “I’d like to do a bunch of things, design collections all around the world, make amazing content, start a company or two, creative direct some awesome projects… Insha’Allah all in time,” she expressed on her Instagram. 

 

2.    Aqeelah Harron Ally (FashionBreed)

As no stranger to the modest scene, Aqeelah uses her platform (FashionBreed) as her online canvas. Featuring lookbooks, filter sets, travel advice, beauty and lifestyle content, Aqeelah is an all-rounder ─ there’s literally nothing that she can’t do! She currently works as a writer and stylist, and along with her travels and outfits, this forms the content blueprint of her online identity. “All of us who consider ourselves ‘modest’ or conservative dressers have our own interpretation of what that term means for us personally, whether it’s based on faith, culture or personal preference,” Aqeelah said on her blog and we thought it was the perfect way to describe the modest dressing scene. 

 

3.    Areeba Baker (AreebaArtistry)

Because the concept of blogging has evolved so much, it stands within reason that there isn’t only one type of modest blogger out there. Take Areeba Baker (founder of AreebaArtistry) for instance, though her speciality is make-up and beauty, her personal style is certainly not lacking either. Showcasing a mix of turban tutorials, quick-fix beauty hacks and professional face beats on her page, Areeba is a fresh face on the modest blogging scene and we look forward to seeing what she’ll produce in future. 

 

4.    Thameenah Saint

Thameenah Saint’s brand of modest fashion can be summed up in one word: extra. One look at her Instagram page will have you falling in love with her amazing fashion sense and lavish-looking lifestyle instantly. Though her main calling is make-up artistry, she also dabbles in travel blogging and has a strong following based on her style posts. In an interview with GLAMOUR, she had the following to say on modest dressing: “Too often, dressing modestly is looked at as being restraining, limited or oppressive… for me, dressing modestly is not only about outward appearance or attire but more a way of life. There is a depth of character that rises above beauty and charm. Modesty sends a strong message of acceptance and self-respect and it emphasizes who we are internally rather than focus on outward attractiveness.”

 

5.    Nazmeera Jeewa (shop.style.snap)

Designer and personal stylist, Nazmeera Jeewa owns and managers her modest-dressing clothing label (shop.style.snap). With a keen eye for the finer details and prints, Nazmeera caters to the modern fashionista and inspires modest dressing via her personal platform. 

 

6.    Sara Morshedi Jhazbhay (GlamhouseSA)

If you’re looking for modest style and a make-up inspiration, look no further than GlamhouseSA. This Johannesburg-based power player is known for serving major make-up looks, but anyone who follows her would agree, her scarf styling is reason enough to hit the like button. 

 

7.    Tasneem Valley  

Lakefield and Benoni-based Tasneem Valley identifies as a ‘modest hybrid’. Known for her colourful fashion choices and signature bow-tied turban, Tasneem’s style is a blend of Western-chic and modesty. What’s more, Tasneem’s passion is beauty and she has her own business where she does everything from laser hair removal facials and peels to micro needling and more.

 

8.    Aisha Baker-Parnell 

From fashion to lifestyle, to modest-dressing and now mommy blogging, the 28-year old mother of Khalid is an inspiration to many. Even though her blog focus has shifted throughout her career, Aisha still maintains her modest dress sense and continues to serve up serious looks on her online platform. In her 2017 Ramadaan Style Guide, she admitted that “Many women enter into hijab, myself included, as a symbol of humility and modesty. Some of us use the month of Ramadan as a turning for the future to someday enter into a modest way of dressing.” 

 

9.    Saarah Jasmin Nwajei-Abdul Majeed

Though her name may be new to a few, Saarah is no novice on the modest fashion scene. This local fashion designer and entrepreneur’s interpretation of style is nothing short of classy with elegant designs that are tailor-made for the modest maven. On her personal Instagram account, she exhibits a keen eye for detail, colour and a fierce style that is unmatched by anyone else. 

 

10.    Daaliah Harris-Meyer 

A newcomer to blogging, she briefly went by the name of ‘HijaabiMaamie’ and she’s been on our radar for a while now. Offering a fresh take on minimalist and modest fashion, Daaliah has a large following and daily curated content. She identifies as a “psychology student trying to heal the world through make-up, and minimalistic modest fashion” and we appreciate that about her.
