Iman Mkwanazi Takes #SAFW!

This year marks 22 years of SA Fashion Week, a time dedicated to showcasing the designers’ latest luxury collections to buyers, the media and the public. SAFW SS19 showcased 15 luxury designers, Thebe Magugu, ERRE and Sefli to name a few. There were noticeable trends throughout the collections with bright colours, prints, pastels and linens leading the way.

Pastels

The runway was filled with café au lait colours, mimicking the current trends seen on international runways. Mmuso Maxwell, Amanda Laird Cherry and Selfi showcased relaxed yet sophisticated looks – a unique quality attributed to pastels.

Fringe and feathers

Take style notes from Gert-Johan Coetzee and ERRE, add character and just the right amount of drama to any look with fringes and feathers.

Prints

Thebe Magugu, one of South Africa’s national treasures, closed the first show. He was recently selected as on the top finalist for the LVMH prize, an initiative launched in 2013 that honours and supports young fashion designers from all over the world. Magugu showcased his signature prints, bold colours and asymmetrical designs. Judith Atelier’s collection featured beautiful pastel blue hues and prints with hints of femininity.

Bright bold colours

How to walk into a room and be the centre of attention? Be bold, not just in character, but in colour too. Manstho and Isabel De Villiers’collections consisted of beautiful reds, pinks and yellows. Statement pieces that were well-constructed and exuded excellent workmanship.

Patterns

Mmuso Maxwell showed us how to elevate polka dots, taking this fun pattern from cute to sexy with his sheer blue blouse. Gert-Johan Coetzee’s houndstooth bodysuit screamed, “architecture in motion”.

My best dressed were the following individuals:

Kwena

Always so diverse and unique, Kwena sets her own tone. Dressed in ERRE, she pushes you to develop your own unique sense of style. Being different in a crowd full of people is so important.

Rich Mnisi

A thinker and creative, Rich Mnisi wears his own designs and looks like a model. I loved his outfit, it was a great mixture of colours.

Camille

French blogger, Camille wore printed looks for two consecutive days. I loved that she echoed the trends seen on the runways and gave them her own spin.
