Which Fashion/Style Personality Are You?

Fashion trends are ever-evolving and though change is inevitable, some things stay the same – like your sense of personal style. You have seen a great many trends come and go, but some tend to grow on you, and, if you are really into it, you adopt it for longer than its required season.

Without further ado, let’s discuss the different fashion or rather, style personalities you could ascribe to.

Classic Minimalist Chic

If you fancy yourself a fashion purist like Anna Wintour, then you’re likely into tailored pieces and quality buys. Celebrity style inspirations include the current Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham. If you’re looking to adopt this style, invest in a pair of tailored pants, black skinnies, a wealth of plain tees/shirts and leather shoes which include the pointy stiletto variety, or adidas Stan Smiths. You can never go wrong with a statement jacket or coat, but remember – its quality over quantity.

Vintage Vamp

Do you spend hours at the thrift store or sifting through your gran’s cupboard? This may come as no surprise to you, but you’re a vintage vamp. The perfect example of this style would be Dita Von Teese with her signature ‘50s pin-up look, along with Taylor Swift and Zooey Deschanel in their ‘60s realness. The top spot goes to the Olsen twins however, with their eclectic picks and stunning furs. Nailing this look is relatively easy, just find something you like and wear it! Popular picks include mom jeans, vintage jackets, shift dresses and beaded accessories.

Boho Babe

If you recall our post from last spring, you’d know that the bohemian fashion trend is dead. That, however, does not mean that people have stopped championing the look. Take Vanessa Hudgens – reigning queen of Coachella – for instance. Every year she reminds us that crochet everything, vintage cowboy boots and airy dresses make for a stunning fashion statement come festival season. Whether you’re a free spirit or just a laid-back chick, the key to festival styling is to dress comfortably – and to add a flower crown, always.

Non-Conformative

There is something to be said about the art movement in fashion. Though fashion is a form of art in its own right, some patrons tend to make their appreciation a little more apparent than others. Dressing in bold colours and deconstructed designs and investing in eclectic statement pieces – all being a prime example of this. Creatives (naturally) take to dressing unconventionally to make a statement, along with others who take dressing to express seriously. The great thing about this particular group is that it informs which trends get picked up in seasons to come. Your prime suspects are Janelle Monae, Beyoncé, Jared Leto, Tracee Ellis Ross and, most recently, Celine Dion

Slay Queen

The time to own your confidence is now. Slay queens all over the world have proven that confidence will always be in mode and we are totally here for it. The fundamentals to nailing this look are to highlight your best (body) features with figure-framing dresses, snug-fitting jeans and never leaving home without your makeup being on-fleek. It’s all about being your loudest, proudest, most confident self and dressing like you’re about to run into your ex (or enemy) at any moment. Looking for celeb style inspo? Casual

Dressing casually is often misconstrued for doing the bare minimum. Though somewhat accurate, there is still some degree of finessing done in mastering a casual look. Casual dressers prioritise simplicity and comfort and over everything else, and for that, they deserve our respect. Their wardrobes comprise mainly of sneakers and flats galore, a well-stocked collection of tees and/or light knits and denim overload. The usual perpetrators are Alessia Cara, Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lawrence.

Athleisure

At this point, no one is a stranger to athleisure. Much like casual dressers, athleisure affords its wearers comfort and ease in terms of fit and style. If you’re looking to reach your #SummerBody goals or you’re just looking to look less potato-like in the gym, this is the perfect trend to buy into. Not forgetting the ‘leisure’ aspect, you’ll find on-trend designs in sneakers and outerwear apparent in this grouping.

Preppy

At some or point in our lives, we were all obsessed with Gossip Girl and Blair Waldorf’s perfect mastery of the prep-school look. Think tartan print anything, sleek blazers, patterned stockings, pretty blouses, head-turning headbands, pleated skirts and a standard statement bag. Other celebs who champion this look are Taylor Swift, Emma Watson and Lea Michelle’s Rachel Berry in Glee.

Trend-Conscious

Most of us fall into this category. With so many style personalities out there, we’re like a kid in a gelato store and sample a little bit of everything. There’s no shame in it. Some of us (ahem, Rihanna) slay each trend and some of us tentatively choose which ones to adopt. The great thing about being a trend-follower is that you get a choice in what you want to buy into. Though we all can’t be Rihanna or Kanye, we sure as hell are going to cop the brand new Fenty x Puma drop, or Yeezy sneakers to imitate them as close as we can. It’s mandatory.
